Preamble

This story is about my distant cousin, Lauren, who is very dear to me. She and I are roaming far apart in different forests, though we still feel our hearts beating in time.

I wanted to tell her story because she is misunderstood, even feared, and most would judge her harshly. Like me, she is a fellow she-wolf. Many would fear her. Some would call her merely a “dog” or “bitch” because, in a human world, she is so much diminished, rather like a shrivelled form of herself, curled up in a back, chasing after rubber toys. Only by understanding the ways of the forest in which she lurks and becomes fully alive can her true nature be revealed.

This book is about Lauren, but it might also be the story of anyone who chooses an unconventional lifestyle or has needs that many might regard as shameful, perverted, or downright dirty.
